When you enter the chat room you will be asked to type your name, select the colour of the text you wish to type in using the drop down menu and then type your first message, from then on you will not need to type your name . The frame with the messages in will update itself every 10 seconds, if you wish to update more frequently you can click on the "Refresh Chat Window" text.
